Death, Revival, and Healing

Death and Healing
Can characters be killed?
» Yes, if all players consent to it.

What happens if they die?
» Characters are automatically resurrected at one of the temples. If they serve a god, they'll be revived by that god, otherwise you can decide which. Resurrection is excruciatingly painful and can leave characters feeling weakened for some time. Think of video game "resurrection sickness" where all stats are lowered, lasting for several days. If your character dies because of not offering tribute for three months they will not be automatically resurrected.

What about someone who dies because they didn't offer tribute?
» Since the gods aren’t willing to expend power to keep you bound to this world, a revival requires that power to come from elsewhere. Your friends (or frenemies, or people you owe money to — anyone invested in your continued existence) must offer something to the gods equal to the cost of your revival. Usually this is a sacrifice of a blood offering or tantric energy (or both) but any kind of large offering that provides a massive amount of power will work. Gather thirty artifacts? Sure. Rouse a huge burst of energy from a crowd by performing a dance number? Go for it! Anything works as long as it’s generating enough memory or emotion based power for the gods.

You may suffer some side effects after being hideously and slowly unravelled from reality and then being put back together, but what those are and their duration is up to player discretion.

Can I purchase other healing from a Temple?
» Yes, you can donate tribute or currency to be healed of ailments, wounds, or player-inflicted spells/curses/etc. The more severe the ailment, the steeper the cost to be healed, with the price for major healings not to be taken lightly. However, the temples cannot free characters from a God-inflicted curse.

Could I just get healed by an NPC instead?
» Some NPCs can offer medical treatment, but none of them have magical healing to give you. And it's not for free! They'll charge less than a temple healing, of course, but they'll still charge. If you want magical healing or want medical assistance without paying for it, you'd better see if your fellow players have characters that can help.
