What kinds of characters are allowed in this game?
» Canon characters, AUs of canon characters, CRAUs of canon characters, and OCs from your own original world. We allow characters based on real historical figures but not the playing of real people themselves (i.e. characters from the musical Hamilton, yes, a K-Pop idol, no).

So you allow duplicates of a character?
» That's right, but they have to be different versions. If you want to app Harry Potter but someone already plays canon Harry Potter, you'll have to app an AU (Harry was sorted into Slytherin!) or CRAU (previously from another game) version. Only three versions of the same character are concurrently allowed.

Can I app a second character from a canon I already play from?
» That depends. You can't play two canon versions of characters from the same canon, but you can play one canon version and one AU version, or two AU versions from different AUs, which does include CRAUs. We judge apps of seconds from a canon you play in already based on how close the characters are and how likely they would be to interact if a player other than yourself were apping. In general we don't mind a bit of fudging about this, but we ask you do reasonably consider and make sure you're not apping characters who would be close or want to interact a lot. Apping a second character from a canon you play in will always be judged case by case.

Can I app my canon OC?
» Yes and no. You cannot app any fandom OCs with a direct relationship (familial or otherwise) to a canon character, but beyond that, OCs from within an established canon universe or a universe that uses the same mechanics as a canon will be appable on a case by case basis. Talk to the mods if you want to app one of these options. Please note that any malleable protagonist OCs must be apped as AUs rather than a definitive canon version.

So I can app a silent/malleable protagonist?
» Yes. However, all malleable protagonists must be apped AU. Hawke, Shepard, Persona protags, the Warrior of Light; you can app any of these or others and play them with the game events happening more or less canon as you wish, fully canon or more AU, but the AU is there to allow people apping NPCs or party members from the canon to app without necessarily being bound by the choices of your character.

Is there a powercap?
» Not really, but if your character has powers, abilities, or items that would allow them to leave the setting, they just don't work. Call it an effect of asshole godly cosmic power. Reality altering powers are also slightly weakened, and if your character can normally see the future, they'll find that all they see is indistinct fog. Basically, consider anything that would be game-breaking as already broken and fudge it for what works best for you and those you play with.

I'm playing a god/would-be-godslayer, can I fight Sinne or Ciemra?
» Nope! Some strange quirk of fate/their godly cosmic powers/whatever has turned you into a comparatively lesser god. You're welcome to have your character plot against the gods, but at least for now, they won't succeed.

When are apps open/processed?
» Apps open on the 25th of every month and are closed at 11:59pm est on the last day of every month. They are processed the day after that, the 1st of every month.

Do I have to reserve to app a character?
» Nope! But reserves open on the 22nd of every month if you want to anyway.

How many characters can I play?
» Currently, each player can play up to four characters. We trust you to know how many you can handle while remaining reasonably active.

What's outside the West Gate?
» Please look forward to it! Rather, that will be revealed as in-game events progress.

What happens when my character arrives?
» They're given a short orientation by the priests of one of the temples as well as some money, a ration voucher and most importantly, their Fetish. Their Fetish is a piece of jewelry that you, the player, decide on, and can be worn while accomplishing Objectives. It collects the energy from Objectives that can then be turned in at the temples as tribute in place of artifacts. They're also allowed to stay at one of the temples for a month, while they find lodging elsewhere.

Yeah canon updating is possible, they'll disappear for however long like an hour or a few days and reappear updated. They won't remember how they left or got back it'll just happen.

Can survivalist characters decide to set up camp outside the city and try to say 'f-you' to the status system that way? (this dude would probably end up doing a lot of what he does in canon, which is being a hunter/tracker and bringing meat into the city for trade anyway, but he's not likely to accept the status quo right off so making sure it's cool he tries to opt-out at first if he gets in)

Absolutely! He'll find blessings and curses that affect The City population affect him as well, but there's no obligation to live in The City, give tribute, or take advantage of Status.

So, is it safe to assume there is no "Network" unless players and/or an event creates such a thing, making this game predominately action or log tags?

Also, I suppose it's also fair to check: Are there restrictions on the type of character that is appable (apart from no Fandom OCs)?

That's right! You and friends can find cell phone or other sorts of devices as artifacts and they can mysteriously work if you want them to, but there's no game wide mechanic for it.

And yes, the other restriction is no real people. Real people from a canon are fine, such as Fate/franchise Thomas Edison, but no apping Miley Cyrus.

How much do our characters know when they're kidnapped into the City? Just generally speaking.

Also, in the case of items that need upkeep or parts that are fairly universe-specific would that count as something that doesn't work, or would it basically just be unmaintainable?

As much or as little of the IC setting info as you want to handwave them learning from NPCs.

In the case of universe specific items you can assume parts can be found as artifacts. Or not found, depending on if you want to play with those things being broken or not.

What cannot be found are ways out of this world; spaceships or portals that can function beyond the city and jungles and the like.

a question!!! and i apologize if it's already been asked/answered, but.. when people are kidnapped, can the gods snatch some of the person's crap to come with them, or do they just show up with whatever they were wearing at the time?

Whatever they had on them, but they can find their stuff in ruins even if it makes no logical sense. Who parked a Gundam in this pyramid??? who knows.

About deviant/criminal behavior: How frowned upon is it, or is it even frowned upon? What sort of element is in place to keep people from stealing/harming others, and what are the consequences for doing so?

OOCly, it's not frowned upon at all. ICly, that'll be up to characters to decide. There's nothing in place in the setting to discourage criminal behavior, and the game is set up to allow people to play out extreme kink and the like as much as they want as long as it's all OOCly okay.

My character has a curse pretty much identical to a werewolf's, where the infection is dependant on cycles of gravitational and electromagnetic flux. Are there anything like that in the city? Does it have a moon?

The world has a regular solar and lunar cycle, yep. You're free to go with those still affecting your character's curse if you'd like him to do the wolfy thing. Whatever's gonna be most fun for you!

TWO QUESTIONS

1. about canon ocs, for a canon like fate/, obviously you wouldn't be able to Emiya Shirou's long lost twin sister, but is apping from a completely separate timeline and continuity with entirely different people but approximately the same universe mechanics while still calling them by the same names kosher? or would I have to file the serial numbers off and call it something like the Holy Lamp War

2. are there any indicators for what the gods are like in terms of personality and ideals? for example, do the resident npcs talk about how Sinne is very strict about being on time to things, or something like that. or is it possible to actual interact/converse with them directly in any way?

1. Using the same mechanics with the same class names and calling it the Holy Grail War, etc. is fine, it just can't be the same universe as any of the canons or have any of the canon characters (unless canon characters from, for exampl, Fate/ want to app into the AU — our intention is just to prevent Gilgamesh's twin sister). We're going to review and revise the canon OC rule to take things like this kind of AU into consideration since it's limiting more than intended, so go right ahead!

2. Sinne is said to be aggressive and Ciemra is said to be cunning, but that's all anyone really knows. They're associated with Light and Dark respectively, so make of that what you will. At least for the moment, there's no way to interact with the gods directly, but that doesn't have to stop your character from trying by leaving offerings or camping out at the Temples or whatever. Just be aware that they won't receive a response. Asshole gods are assholes, after all.

Hello!

You're allowed to app two characters from the same canon, but they can't be characters with close CR. Generally, if you'd expect them to be interacting often, nope, too close. We'll handle such app situations on a case by case basis.

You're free to have your characters have mutual CR and do rare instances of self-threading for things like threesomes. Generally, as long as it's not impacting anyone else's fun, it's fine. If it's being abused to give yourself an advantage in the game, gang up on other characters, etc. then we won't allow it.

If a canon has multiple universes in which different things have happened, can you have two "canon" versions from different timelines? For example, Batman from the normal comics canon and then Batman from an AU miniseries?

Sure, that's fine! As long as there's a noticeable difference between the canons and the two versions are from separate universes. The characters should be AU versions of each other, so you could do movie version Batman and current comics canon Batman, but not the Batman in whatever the current Justice League title is and the Batman who's in his own title since they're the same character, just in different titles.

For the sake of clarification, how are you all opting to define "AU"? I know there's the HP example with Harry in Slytherin, but are you therefore allowing player-developed AUs rather than just those expressly nodded to or used as extra material by canon? shit i should really ask before reserving

Player-developed AUs are fine! AU is being used to mean anything that has significantly different events from the canon.

RE: the assigned housing! Can people trade/steal/etc room keys to shuffle up who's rooming with who? If so, how would we give you the heads up, since it looks like the housing doc is non-editable?

Yes, shuffling rooms is fine! Just note that you can only trade rooms with another character or move out of the starter dorm entirely, not move into an empty room in the dorm.

Out of curiosity what happens if someone tries to offer something as tribute that turns out to not be a real artifact? Do characters offer the tribute personally in a way where they'd notice immediately that it wasn't accepted or do they hand it off to priests or something?

A good question! If you're trying it ICly, don't include non-artifact tribute in the AC sheet, and any tribute offered that is not originally from a ruin (ie, you can buy an artifact necklace from a pc or npc and it still counts, but you can't offer a regular old apple and call it an artifact) will result in being cursed for little while.

I HAVE A QUESTION... I should have clarified this earlier but Medb as a Heroic Spirit has the ability to summon her beloved chariot from hammerspace and is powered purely by force of her will. Similarly, she's described as being able to summon homunculus warriors to fight for her by combining her blood + fluids from someone else + earth. I assume she'd be able to do these but what particular restrictions should I keep in mind? Like I assume a whole platoon of homunculi is a bit much? Could she ride her chariot around?

Yes! None of these are game breaking, she can certainly summon and ride whatever she wants. If you want to limit her powers at any point there's always random unpredictable affects from traps and artifacts in the ruins, but in general she can have her powers as you like.

The only limit is really what's fun for other players, so no armies of homunculi taking over half the city, unless the whole player base is down with it.

Hello! Out of curiosity, will there be another tdm before the next opening of apps?

Hello! We're currently not planning to post any more test drives since the game will be switching to always open apps. We may re-evaluate in a couple months if there's a demand for test drives from players/potential players, but even then it wouldn't be something we schedule every month. In the meantime, anyone who's interested is welcome to continue playing on the old test drive indefinitely!

Yep, one sun, one moon, unique constellations that you are free to give stupid names to! This may change because the setting is so unstable and shifting, but for now, that's how things are starting off. If you want there to be NPCs that do the whole astrological thing, feel free to have them exist, but it's entirely up to player discretion.

There are indeed nearby planets but they mostly appear as brighter spots in the sky. If your character does try to find a telescope or the like to look at the sky, you're free to make up any space features such as the types of planets or asteroid belts, etc. but they're all unknown and unique to this world.

i have recently become an fgo ho, so i wanted to ask about something that came up...

would rin be able to find an artifact in the ruins that resembled her costume as ishtar, a summoned servant in the game? i was thinking of playing with possible effects it could cause as well—nothing gamebreaking, of course! i know the artifacts page says everything is cool, but i wanted to ask about this just in case c: ty, mods!

Question mods! Since the game's app is going to be open indefinitely soon, will there still be TDM posted, let's say, once per month? Or are potential applicants left with making their own prompts for the sample?

We're currently not planning to post any more Test Drives since the game will be having open apps. We may re-evaluate in a couple months if there's a demand for test drives from players/potential players, but even then it definitely wouldn't be something we schedule every month.

If you have threads in other games or muse boxes you want to use as samples we definitely accept those!

There aren't any large bodies of water at this time, just rivers and streams in the jungle outside The City.

2 questions!

1. How do you feel about characters with small amounts of canon a la one of DW companions like Maisie Williams's character from the most recent season or a recurring character like Kristen Kringle from Gotham?

2. Injuries upon arrival, how would they be dealt with. Example using this girl would be her getting snagged when she was stabbed back in S3 by Ra's Al Ghul (also to avoid the whole mess of a pit arc).

1. Mostly this would be judged on a case by case basis. We allow characters with small amounts of canon so long as there's enough to show a consistent, canon information-based personality with clear motivations and enough known about the character's backstory that it's not a complete blank slate. If the character doesn't meet these criteria, you're free to app them as an AU version so that you can create enough information to make them playable without contradicting the canon information (or lack thereof).

2. You can choose how you'd like to deal with injuries on arrival. If you want to keep them to play with them, you can, or you're free to say that the gods healed them when kidnapping the character. Whatever's going to be most fun for you!

If someone, for example Gilgamesh, were able to pull a magical tent or some kind of livable space (large vehicle, whatever, but honestly i'm mostly thinking about the tent) or whatever out of his hammerspace.... would it be okay for him to live in it, kind of outside the city, but nearby?

(Obviously, still affected by city-curses/politics/whatever.)

canon must have been stuck in development hell for 10 years

But nope, no rules on that! The characters must have enough canon info for a cohesive personality, or else you can do an AU version, but we don't have rules about when you can app from a newly released canon.

Can there be youkai among the monsters in the forest? If so, would they be able to enter the city?

Yes, whatever you want! As long as it's not impacting anyone else's fun or breaking any of the rules we have on the info pages, you can do what you'd like with NPCs and monsters.
